Jerry New Yahoo CEO

June 18th, 2007

Apparently Terry’s Out, and Jerry’s In. Yahoo! just announced that Terry’s stepping down…and not a moment too soon. Can’t say everyone didn’t see it coming, especially after the stockholder’s meeting…

Time will tell what this brings to the company, I imagine it will be very beneficial, but we shall see…it’s been a while since Jerry’s run Yahoo!

P.S.-I’m interning at Yahoo!, so this is a big deal for me. I’ll also get to meet Jerry in a little over a week, which is awesome.

When Will Companies Learn?

June 17th, 2007

So three days ago consumerist.com posted this article from a former Dell kiosk worker. The next day, Dell demanded that the post be taken down.

When are companies going to learn that this kind of stuff just can’t be done anymore? The “blogosphere” has become to powerful to try and censor people, it’s just going to do more harm than good. Bloggers are becoming more ballsy, partially because they get pseudo-instant fame for becoming the victims of a cease-and-desist, partially because they know that companies have no point in pursuing these cases to the end. Think about it: from a cold-and-calculating perspective of a business, would the legal costs associated with suing a poor college student be at all beneficial, especially when the information has already been leaked? When will companies learn that’s it’s just not worth the fallout to even bother…

Geocaching Hints

June 17th, 2007

So I went last Wednesday to hunt down a WordPress Schwag Cache (Photos here), and I figured I’d share some hints with potential first-time geocachers:

  • Car GPS’s do not give directions for following trails…use the map, otherwise it will be pointing you towards the nearest road the whole time…
  • Parks close after dark
    • Cops ticket people for parking in closed parks (Most expensive free tshirt ever…$35)
    • Park gates are locked when they close
      • But cops are very nice about opening them up again…
  • Gopher snakes are not actually poisonous, but it’s cool to think you narrowly escaped death by almost stepping on one

So there you have it, if I can save some poor geocaching schmuck some time and $35 it was worth it…

What We’re About

June 17th, 2007

So it just occurred to me that one may have no idea what the point of the blog is. NerdLife is a relatively vague reference, which is mostly intentional. I’m going to go ahead and lump myself with the great website xkcd with the idea that you can’t really define NerdLife or what it encompasses. You can get a slight grasp of the concept, but anything further must be left up to the imagination.

In short: I have no clue, we’ll figure it out as we go along…
