And So It Begins…

August 13th, 2007

As stated in my previous post, I will be starting (or trying to start) a polyphasic sleep cycle, specifically the Everyman variety, while at college and across timezones. Here’s how it’s going to work:

  • I begin today, Monday, by sleeping from now (1AM PDT) until 5AM PDT and having a short nap at 9AM, 3PM, and 7PM PDT (my pathetic attempt to try to ease into things).
  • I will finish off my week in California by taking 20 minute naps at 7AM, 2PM, and 7PM PDT and getting my core sleep from 12-3AM PDT.
  • Once I go back to Carnegie Mellon I will shift my cycle back by 3 hours, meaning that I will have no jet lag (3 hour time difference from PDT to EDT), and my new schedule will fit nicely into my school schedule.
  • I will consume no alcohol or caffeine, since that ruins the cycle.

At the very least it should be interesting. Now, time for bed.

Update: I do not plan on using this blog to post updates on this…I’ll probably use twitter for that. Also, I messed up my first day…*sigh*

SuperHappyDevHouse

August 12th, 2007

Well, I just spent the day at SuperHappyDevHouse 19. Some highlights of the evening:

  • Having an hour-long conversation about dropping out of college, and again finding that everyone in the near vicinity feels that I should
  • Meeting an entrepreneur in silicon valley younger than I am
  • Being (easily) convinced by Chris Smoak (who doesn’t seem to have a blog…) that I am fully capable of implementing an Everyman sleep schedule while at college, which I intend to try
    • And realizing that Carnegie Mellon students/alum have almost as many internal acronyms as Yahoo.
  • Having a few people actually have read my blog before I met them (very cool and infrequent occurrence)
  • The “Hot Tub of Philosophy”

It’s definitely a great event worth checking out if you’re in the Bay Area, I know I’ll be going whenever I’m nearby.

Oh, and I found out via a former Facebook employee that Simon, the guy who sent me my Cease & Desist, is actually from customer service, not legal. What a shame…they couldn’t even take the time to sick a high-paid corporate lawyer on me…
